23 Things

The overall exercise was useful and introduced me to technology that I might not have explored on my own. One problem was finding block of time to work on exercises without interruption. But equipment is what made this a long process. My computer has not been updated yet and made completing the exercises more difficult.

Wikis

I looked at several sites and thought that the Book Lovers wiki would be useful to library customers. They can find reviews on different topic/genres and post their own reviews. I did not like some sites because there is no authority over the information.

Audio Books

I went to the NET LIBRARY site and looked around. I could not open an account. I would like to learn more about this later. Project Gutenberg was unavailable. These sources are beneficial to customers who listen to audiobooks.

Podcasts

I went to MERLIN podcasting learning link and found a link to Kankakee Public Library. I added an RSS feed for their podcast to my Bloglines account so that I could listen to author interviews.

You Tube

I discovered and explored YOU TUBE. Blind Painter was the video that I found. It would be a video that I could add to my blog because it is about a blind student at the University of Texas. He is an artist who demonstrates his painting technique on the video.

Web 2.0 Awards List

I went to the Web 2.0 awards list and chose the books site. Once I was on the site, my choice was Biblio.com. This site allows you to search for out-of-print books and buy them on the site. You can chose the type of book you want and email the information to a friend or a customer. I have been searching for the Honey Bunch books that I had as a child. I found them.

#18

I created a Google Docs account and wrote a letter.

Del.icio.us

I looked at the site options and clicked a few bookmarks. There are some very unique bookmarks on this site. This site is wonderful for people who like the social aspect of sharing and discovering similar websites.

Technorati

It was interesting to see the information that is available but the site will probably not be useful to me. The lists of top movies, videos and DVD's would be the only way I'd use this site.

Web 2.0

I looked at several different views of where Web 2.0 will take libraries. The consensus was that technology was the wave of the future. But the view I enjoyed most was Wendy Schultz's "To a temporary place in time...". While Schultz acknowledges the importance of technological advances in the library world, we must maintain a continual dialogue with users about their needs. At the center of our vision, we should create a balance between technological advances and needs of all users.

Merlin

I signed up for an account on Merlin. Then I created an historical fiction forum and created news feeds on Merlin.

Avatar

This was a lot of fun to discover. Picking out the elements to design the figure and finding the perfect background was a hoot. But exporting the figure to my blog and getting the animation to work was problematic.
